Hang on a second while we grab that post for you.
Some really simple and well used split screen and super solid editorial in this new vid for PRIMITIVE.
Hmm kinda old spice rip offey (what isn’t?) but I have a weak spot for the most interesting man.
Damn OF knows how to get it done for sure. They are just getting better.

How do you take a super shitty year in movies and actually make them all look good?Editing of course! I mean of course of course. fuck you taco del mar!!!
Fuck that title btw. I read way to much huff post and i only read it for its amazingly horrible headlines. it appears that has finally caught up to me.[meta intro biatch]
The sad truth is FCP7 is dead, gone, finished. There will never be FCP7 again. Apple has moved on and as a editor so am I. Early in my video days i fucked myself over by using a apple program years after it was discountined. I had all the same lazy reasons old grandpas and industry vets have for anything new. “but the old one still works great” “im so much faster with this program” “its a industry standard its not just going to go away” ect. The program was apple SHAKE. Its funny looking back becuase peeps even in my industry possibly even office dont know what Shake is. It used to be the indusrty tandard for FILM compositing. Movies like king kong, LOTR, Mission impossible, you name it. If it was a huge hollywood film shake was used to composite. Well apple lowered the price then dscountined it and now its just gone.(sounds familiar).

Determined not to be the same 24 year old apple logo in my eye asshole. As soon as apple announced the death of FCP7 i have been putting in the work to see whats next. Putting in work does not mean just reading reviews and opinions or even doing fun little home videos (i’ve done those as well) but actually putting in work. I have been working professional projects (thx @purplejohn for the freedom) over the last quarter (all bizness bitch i refer to time in quarters, but not fiscal ones) in FCPX, AVID MEDIA COMPOSER, AND ADOBE PREMIER so i could get some insight on what i should start learning for the future. I also went through the full Lynda.com training for those programs as well (well not fcpx, lets be honest here, its dead easy) . All that being said I’m not trying to nerd flex on anybody just want to clarify the upcoming opinions have a lot of man hours behind them not just theory and first thoughts.

SIDE NOTE: (as it concerns why it even matters to know what program you want to learn,instead of just learning them all)
I really like the idea of right tool for the right job it appeals to my “im so fucking smart i can learn 3 programs really good and you can only learn 1 instincts” but there is something to being able to master one program. I really do believe the more comfortable you get with a program technically, the more it frees you up creatively. Being excellent with your main artistic tool is important to me for sure (look what MIKE GIANT does with a sharpie).

Any way with all that bullshit aside its PROPS AND SLOPS time.(whoa i don’t even watch the soup anymore i have no idea who to blame that one on)
ALL 3 AS THEY COMPARE TO FCP7
{props}
-modern interface design.(i looooooooove dark interfaces)
- 64-bit apps (really FCP7? I’m pretty sure angry birds is 64-bit)
- Way bigger file format support. Including gross HDSLR footage.
- Runs on a modern OS.
- Never have to render to view footage regardless of size, speed etc.
{slops}
- huh i guess all they have in common is they aren’t fcp7. It technically does nothing better then these apps. ( oh no i got one)
- not as nostalgic?
FCPX
{props}
- the best most innovative and fastest way to organize and recall your footage. Hands down next level. all other apps in future will adopt this format its just to good to go away.
-Built in stabilizing ( on the shots it works on its fucking amazing)
- wicked fast export.
- app store download is hella convenient
- ITS SO FUCKING EASY TO USE. ( it took me longer to learn the new battle system on FFXII)
- Its ease of use and amazing browsing structure will allow it to be a excellent option to actually use on other pro projects that are light enough for it to handle.
{slops}
-Doesn’t have common PRO features. ( being able to edit on a separate broadcast monitor for a director or client. being able to send you edits around to other pros like colorists, sound studios, after effects artists, other editors etc.)
- Gets hella slow under big workloads. like 70kbps(14kbps faster then dial up) uploads slow. Kampers you know what I’m talking about.
-No way to gift on itunes. ie no easy way for your boss to get you the software. @purplejohn had to get me 6 $50 gift cards. Thats ghetto not how pros apps should be paid for.
- Can’t customize interface. Can’t tear off windows arrange as you want.
- file structure for projects is a joke.
- no RED (r3d) footage support. :(
AVID MEDIA COMPOSER
{props}
- Hands down best editing tools. Sub clipping works like it should and true match framing is heaven.
- viewing footage and marking your I and O’s never felt so good. Some thing about composer feels so fluid no lagging at all instant amazingly fast playback.
- everything is customizable.
- still the standard for film, and for a little bit longer that still means something.
{slops}
- really clunky timeline editing. Avid has no room for fcp7 raised timeline editors.
- really specific formats and frame rates required.
- import of “supported” files types can take forever. I didn’t even know things imported into a NLE i always thought they just appeared.
- only have one sequence open at a time.
- pretty spendy for just a editing app with a pretty typical feature set.
ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CS5.5
{props}
- very similar to fcp7, like super similar.
- the best render engine. This program fucking kills all footage you give it no matter how big and doesn’t ask you to render. Even r3d files fall to its sword.
- nice exchange with after effects giving you access to the best stabilizer i have ever used. And honestly opens up the creative possibilities of your edits.
- Best R3d support hands down. If you edit RED footage this app offers you the most.
- Best project organization if any NLE i have ever used.
{slops}
- Blade tool doesn’t snap to play head. RU KIDDING ME!!!
- Transport controls look ghetto as fuck.
- I find j,k,l editing to be a bit laggy.
- worst thumbnail view.
- worst pedigree. It used to be in the same class of editors as SONY VEGAS.
I will probably try to start editing future projects in premiere. With Scarlet-X on the way i would be stupid to not get in good with premiere. Hope fully FCP-X will step its game up it has real potential. This time though even if FCP-X never grows up im not going to be left looking like a asshole.
